Professional Background

Having grown up in a very small town in Southwest Iowa, it was rare to see or know a doctor. Having no physicians in my town, from my school, or in my family, medicine was an unusual path to take from a rural farm town. My interest in medicine came after a motor vehicle crash requiring surgeries on my knee and seeing the dedication and rehabilitation it takes to improve. I chose to go to the medical College Wisconsin for my schooling as well as residency. And then to private practice where I did inpatient as well as spasticity management for neurorehabilitation patients. I had interested in spine care and chose to increase my skills by learning more and how to perform interventional spine techniques. I did my fellowship here at the University of Kansas. I then chose to work at the University of Florida to help build a spine center as well as a residency program. After helping with a spine center build, a new department build, a residency build, I decided to return to the university of Kansas where I had enjoyed my time and the people who I worked with, which can never be understated. In addition, it gives me opportunities to reconnect with some of my rehabilitation skills as well as incorporate more health and wellness and integrative medicine into my practice. My goals are two provide others the best care and offer other integrated options if possible prior to more aggressive treatment. I also strive to try and provide as complete care as possible as consistent as possible. Meeting the patient where they are at in regards to diagnosis and treatment. My interests at this time include spine care interventional care, nuerorehabilitation, spasticity management, wellness, and integrative medicine. My favorite day includes building upon many of these interests to further someone’s functional development.
