Students

Kansas 4M offers a variety of learning experiences and resources for students to enhance their didactic and clinical learning in geriatrics.

  1. Interprofessional Age Friendly Scholars Program: Kansas 4M provides virtual interprofessional case-based opportunities to learn with, from and about other health and social care professions students including (but not limited to) dietetics and nutrition, medicine, nursing, occupational therapy, pharmacy, physical therapy and social work. Students can receive a $5,000 stipend for participating.

  2. Clinical Rotations and Fellowships: Students participate in clinical rotations in rural and underserved sites serving older adults, offering real world learning-in-practice experiences caring for older adults and their family caregivers across the care continuum.
  3. Webinars: Kansas 4M offers webinars, including Lunch and Learns and case-based Project ECHO sessions, on evidence-based age-friendly and dementia-friendly care.
  4. Access to Resources and Tools: Kansas 4M offers access to a range of educational resources and tools, including clinical guidelines, best practices and innovative technologies designed to improve the care of older adults.
  5. Networking Opportunities: Students benefit from networking opportunities including participation in interprofessional geriatrics case competitions, geriatrics student interest groups, virtual poster presentations, and a state conference on aging.

These experiences and resources are designed to prepare students to effectively care for older adults and their family caregivers and to integrate geriatrics into primary care sites and delivery systems (including nursing homes), and community organizations.
