Kansas 4M will provide a range of educational programs for students, faculty, preceptors and professionals across an array of health care roles.

Interprofessional Age-Friendly Scholars

Participating students will receive a $5,000 stipend to participate in a 160-hour-minimum longitudinal clinical rotation serving older adults in a rural or underserved community and engage in virtual interprofessional case-based learning and didactic content on the Age-Friendly Health Systems Framework during the semester of their clinical rotation (fall, spring, or summer). In April of each year, students will present a project or research poster applying the 4Ms to their clinical site during the Kansas 4M Annual Summit.

A train-the-trainer approach will provide faculty and preceptors affiliated with community colleges, colleges and universities across Kansas with the knowledge, skills and educational resources to educate students, residents and fellows to provide age-friendly and dementia-friendly care to older adults. These faculty and preceptors will pay-it-forward, expanding the reach of Kansas 4M training to colleagues and the students they are preparing to join the health care workforce. 

Rural Brain Health Fellowship

In collaboration with the University of Kansas Alzheimer’s Disease Research Center and Heartland Telehealth Resource Center, one advanced Practice Professional currently employed in a rural primary care site or delivery system per year will participate in 9 months of virtual training and telehealth clinical visits while remaining employed in their local community.  

Apprenticeship Program

In partnership with the Kansas Office of Apprenticeship, Kansas 4M will develop and pilot an apprenticeship program for direct care workers who provide home and community-based services to older adults through structured training and on-the-job mentorship.
