Favorite campus spot?

The Ad Astra Conference room on floor 5 of our Health Education Building. The views are amazing (unless you’re afraid of heights)!

Runner up: Our Nursing Skills Lab. It is so cool and high-tech; I could spend hours there experimenting with different nursing skills! (And our students actually DO spend hours there!)

Favorite local coffee spot/restaurant?

My favorite coffee is The Filling Station. They have a breakfast sandwich named after me (The McGee) and their oat milk vanilla latte is incredible!

My favorite restaurant is Q39 Barbeque. The burnt ends are unbeatable; nothing tops Kansas City BBQ!

Why do you enjoy recruiting for KU School of Nursing?

My partner graduated from KU Nursing and is currently a pediatric oncology nurse at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City. She inspires me daily with her hard work and the effect she has on the lives of others. My goal is to bring students into our program and see them grow into an amazing nurse and person, just like she did throughout the program!

What’s the one thing people don’t think to ask a recruiter?

Questions about themselves! Asking about application timelines and prerequisite courses is great, but students often forget to ask questions that are geared toward their own needs and expectations.

Each student has unique needs, so be sure to ask questions that pertain to you specifically: academically, professionally and as a nurse!

Favorite campus spot?

The University Room located on the Salina campus is my favorite because — hello! — the coffee is free for our students, faculty and staff!

Favorite local coffee spot/restaurant?

All of the restaurants in downtown Salina are fantastic. It's hard to choose just one, but if I have to pick... I love sushi and Barolo Grille is the place to go downtown for sushi.

Why do you enjoy recruiting for the KU School of Nursing?

I have been a diehard Jayhawk fan since I was very young, so it means a lot to be a part of the KU community. The nursing faculty, staff and students are amazing people who genuinely care about producing the best nurses who will become the best caregivers for their future patients. It’s just incredible that I play a small part in helping recruit a future nurse who will save someone's life someday.

What’s the one thing people don’t think to ask a college recruiter?

I've been a college recruiter for over 18 years, and I can say that most people are very thorough with their questions. However, I believe students and parents sometimes get too caught up in wanting to know the statistics about a school instead of the experiences they’ll have while attending the school. And the best way to find out if a school is right for you or your student is to physically visit the campus, experience what it’s like to be at the school and speak to the students who are currently experiencing it. We welcome anyone to visit us and see for themselves.
