Department of Psychiatry & Behavioral Sciences-Wichita

Welcome, and thank you for your interest in our department. We are here for three reasons: to educate our learners, to provide clinical services to our patients, and to advance scholarly activity and research.

We train future physicians and health care professionals in psychiatry and behavioral sciences so they will be able to serve the citizens of Kansas and beyond. We teach future doctors who will go on to work in primary care and every other specialty, as well as future psychiatrists, child psychologists and neuropsychologists.

Wichita is a regional health care center that draws patients from all parts of Kansas and northern Oklahoma. We see patients in community settings, inpatient psychiatric treatment facilities, community mental health centers and outpatient clinics. Alongside our faculty, our learners work together to provide state-of-the-art interdisciplinary patient care.

Our faculty are involved in scholarly activities and research in a variety of areas, including geriatric, adult, adolescent and child clinical trials, and various aspects of clinical neuropsychology and child psychology. Medical students, residents, interns and fellows have multiple opportunities to become involved and to author publications.

Wichita is our home and home to over 500,000 people. Our city and the surrounding area offer a reasonable cost of living and many attractions for families and young professionals. We have a world-class symphony and the Sedgwick County Zoo is one of the best in the country.
