KU School of Medicine-Wichita offers a unique and robust gastroenterology training experience in a fully accredited ACGME fellowship program.

Our program is designed to offer comprehensive training that will allow fellows to acquire the knowledge, skills (procedural and nonprocedural) and behavioral attributes necessary for success as a gastroenterologist, including compassionate, professional, comprehensive care of patients in all health care settings (acute care hospital, endoscopy procedural settings and longitudinal ambulatory settings). Fellows will work within a health care system that prioritizes collaborative, team-based patient care that focuses on patient satisfaction and high-quality care. Through rotation experiences, simulations, didactics and scholarly activities, the program evaluates fellows on their trajectory of learning as they progress through fellowship.

Fellows completing training in the KU School of Medicine-Wichita Gastroenterology Fellowship Program will graduate well prepared as outstanding physicians ready for careers in clinical and academic gastroenterology and hepatology.

Sincerely,

The mission of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita is to train doctors who can improve the health of Kansans. The Gastroenterology and Hepatology Division exists under the direction of the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita Department of Internal Medicine. As such, the Gastroenterology Fellowship Program functions as an integral part of the ACGME-accredited core Internal Medicine Residency Program at the University of Kansas School of Medicine-Wichita.

The gastroenterology fellowship functions within this context, with the goal of training well-rounded gastroenterology physicians who can tailor their training experience around their career goals. Our rotations are designed to provide a broad clinical exposure while establishing a solid foundation of scholarship, research and inquiry that fully prepares fellows for a career as a general gastroenterologist who provides high-quality, technically proficient clinical care.

The program emphasizes the professional etiquette, behaviors and humanistic aspects of medical practice essential to patient care, including the ability to function effectively as part of the patient care team consisting of both medical and paramedical personnel, including the ability to analyze systems deficiencies and generate effective solutions. The program nurtures each fellow's personal commitment to professional growth, scholarship, lifelong learning, self-reflection and self-improvement. The program insists on fellow involvement and competency in quality improvement and patient safety.
