WELCOME NEW FACULTY & STAFF

MALAY BASU, PH.D. ASSOCIATE PROFESSOR

Malay Basu, Ph.D., MBA, joined the department on Friday, April 15, 2022. Dr. Basu completed his Ph.D. at the Center for Cellular and Molecular Biology in Hyderabad, India. He is a skilled bioinformatic scientist and was an Assistant Professor in the Department of Pathology at the University of Alabama at Birmingham. His research interests include bioinformatics and computational biology, evolutionary and comparative genomics, and computational genomics. Dr. Basu will establish collaborative research with clinical and basic science faculty in the department and school of medicine and teach advanced computation biology classes at graduate levels.

AMITAVA DASGUPTA, PH.D. PROFESSOR TENURED

Amitava Dasgupta, Ph.D., joined us on Monday, April 25, 2022. He serves as the new Medical Director of the KUMC hospital laboratories and the Division Director of Clinical Laboratories beginning July 1, 2022. Dr. Dasgupta completed his Ph.D. at Stanford University in Stanford, California and has been practicing laboratory medicine for more than 25 years in several premier academic medical centers including the University of Chicago, University of New Mexico, and most recently the University of Texas in Houston. He is an outstanding academician, experienced clinical chemist, and national and international leader in laboratory medicine. Dr. Dasgupta was a Professor and Division Director of Laboratory Medicine at the University of Texas McGovern Medical School. Dr. Dasgupta has thus far edited and co-edited more than 20 professional books
and published 235 manuscripts and 20 invited reviews. 

THERESA DAVIS, OFFICE COORDINATOR

Theresa Davis joined us on Monday, March 21st, as our new Office Coordinator. She comes from KU School of Nursing (SON) Office of Business & Fiscal Affairs, where she has worked for 13 years. Theresa will assist with faculty recruitment and provide administrative support to the Vice Chair of Research and Faculty Development. She will also be the liaison for UKP and University HR, Facilities, Medical Staff Affairs, and Information Technology.

LESLIE TRACY, GRADUATE STUDIES & RESEARCH SUPPORT COORDINATOR

Leslie Tracy joined us on Monday, May 16th, as the Graduate Studies and Research Support Coordinator. Leslie will assist in the administration of our graduate studies program and will work closely with the Graduate Program Director to oversee activities and functions of graduate students enrolled in the program. She will also assist with registration and other activity related to student and faculty coursework and will be responsible for program communication among faculty, staff, and trainees. Other duties include coordinating the department’s seminar series, Grand Rounds, and special lectures. Prior to joining the department, Leslie served as Resident Life Coordinator of the Hospital Hill Apartments at the University of Missouri - Kansas City. Leslie’s husband Seth is also a KUMC employee, Fellowship Coordinator in the Department of Anesthesiology. Leslie will office out of Hemenway (3084 HLSIC).
