I am pleased and honored to have joined the Department of Pathology and Laboratory Medicine at the University of Kansas School of Medicine (KUMC) since early April 2020. I congratulate and compliment the outstanding accomplishment our faculty, trainees, and staff have made in this unprecedented time of COVID19 pandemic.
I am very fortunate to have the opportunity to work with more than forty preeminent faculty, spanning from emerging leaders to highly accomplished physicians and/or scientists with national and international reputation. Our trainees in clinical and basic science, drawn from leading institutions around the world, immensely enhance the vitality of our department, while our extremely dedicated staff in the department contribute to various aspects of our departmental mission.
To lead the nation in academic department of pathology and laboratory medicine for excellence in patient care, education, discovery, and community engagement, the department will undergo restructuring, reorganization, and recruiting. This will enhance further specialization in clinical service, increase productivity and reputation of academic activities, and attract the best and most talented trainees and scholars to our department. I am appreciative to everyone for their support. Now more than ever, there is the need to share the excellent work being done by our faculty and staff. I am delighted to be sharing the department’s successes on a quarterly basis by way of this newsletter.
