The Master of Science in Applied Statistics, Analytics and Data Science graduate program is a fully accredited, 30-credit hour graduate program that launched in 2015. It was designed for students who want to enter or advance in the in-demand field of data and statistics. This program helps students effectively communicate principles of statistics, analytics and data science, and assist with design and implementation of data management systems. The program is open to students who display strong math skills, but may not have statistics-based academic backgrounds.
In response to workforce demand for knowledge and skills in analytics, data science, and statistics, students enrolled in this degree program may choose from one of three areas of emphasis:
- Analytics Emphasis will provide graduates with experience working with and analyzing large datasets using several of the most common statistical software tools.
- Statistics Emphasis will provide hands-on statistical computing in the context of statistical methods commonly applied in industry and government agencies.
- Data Science Emphasis will provide students with skills in statistical and computational methods for the acquisition and analysis of Big Data.
This program is completed 100% online, in an asynchronous course format.
Data analytics, statistics professionals and data scientists work in a wide variety of industries, including healthcare, public policy, environmental science, business, and public relations. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, jobs in statistics-related fields, including data analytics, are projected to grow 36 percent by 2031, compared to an overall projected occupational growth of 5 percent.
