Honduras Medical Mission Trip

A medical service trip to Honduras gave KU Medical Center faculty and students the opportunity to provide much needed care to patients in underserved areas.

A group from KU Medical Center, including Dr. Jennifer Hansen, Anesthesiology, Dave Pennington, CRNA, Trent Blackwill, CRNA, Dr. Don Neff, Urology Surgery and Dr. Ryan Tubre, Urology Surgery Chief Resident, joined with urology surgeons, nurses and scrub techs from the Medical College of Wisconsin and Ohio State University on a medical service trip to Honduras (March 3-10, 2018).

From the capital city, Tegucigalpa, they traveled four hours by bus to Catacamas and the Hospital Santo Hermano Pedro. During the week, more than 30 of the 100 patients seen in clinic had surgery that they would otherwise not have been able to obtain. The hospital staff and patients were gracious, friendly and appreciative of the medical help provided by the brigade.

Dr. Neff, Dr. Hansen, and Dave Pennington hope to continue their respective departments' involvement in future medical service trips.
