The School of Health Professions Increases Research Portfolio by 43% Since 2020

The University of Kansas School of Health Professions is establishing itself as a leader in health professions research, ranking among the Top 15 schools funded by the National Institutes of Health in its fields. This growth is projected to continue, with the aim of positioning the school within the Top 10 in the next five years. At the helm of the School of Health Professions research is Jacob Sosnoff, Ph.D., associate dean for research and scientific director.

The school's research mission is to develop the evidence base for clinical care and practice within health professions to improve the health and well-being of Kansas and beyond. This mission has been supported by a massive growth in funding in the past year.

During the 2023 calendar year, researchers within the school submitted 48 funding proposals totaling more than $38 million in direct funding and exceeding $13 million in indirect costs. Their research portfolio is currently more than $29 million, representing a 43% increase since 2020.

Sosnoff says, "If I had to choose one word to describe the School of Health Professions' research, it would be growth. We are increasing not only the amount of funding but also the quality of our research. We have long-time faculty receiving their first NIH funding as well as a cohort of junior faculty just getting started."
