About U-CHaMP

The Underserved Communities Have a Medical Provider (U-CHaMP) program provides students from diverse backgrounds an opportunity to enroll in an academic program in the School of Health Professions at KU Medical Center. Students will gain leadership skills, receive unique mentoring and advising opportunities, enjoy immersive clinical experiences and become eligible to apply for a substantial scholarship to complete a degree in a health professions program.

Students who are selected for this program will show a commitment to improving the diversity of the health care workforce and have a passion for closing the health disparity gap in underserved communities.

Students begin as U-CHaMP ambassadors to learn about health professions and how to be prepared to apply to a health professions program. Once accepted and enrolled in the School of Health Professions at KU Medical Center, U-CHaMP ambassadors can apply to be a U-CHaMP scholar and then will be eligible for a substantial scholarship for educational expenses. U-CHaMP scholars are not required to first be U-CHaMP ambassadors; however, it is a competitive application process and U-CHaMP ambassadors may have an advantage.
