Outreach

Commitment to service: learn about outreach opportunities for respiratory care students, sharing knowledge from Kansas to Ghana.

Students in our programs can further their learning through outreach opportunities and international educational experiences.

Community Health Promotion Project

Beyond the classroom, our faculty-led outreach opportunities offer ways to apply your skills through various local community activities. This could include participation in a local health promotion project during your senior year. Such options allow you to promote respiratory health care knowledge to members of local communities through participation in health fairs, community engagements events and activities for children.

We also collaborate with various non-profit organizations in the KC metro area and across the state of Kansas to provide health services and education to underserved populations.

Education Program Partnerships

Through our dual-degree program partners, you can benefit from a designed pathway to earn an advanced degree in respiratory care. The dual degree curriculum allows you to complete a bachelor’s degree in respiratory therapy while remaining in your local Kansas community.

Through a collaboration between Kansas high schools and community colleges, we also have a degree-advancement program. This offers a curriculum path to obtain your bachelor's degree in respiratory care while living and working in your local Kansas community.

Global Health Course

Engage with individuals from diverse backgrounds in other countries and build on your training through our course in global health. International education experience can offer you ways to incorporate concepts learned in the course while providing a broader perspective on the respiratory care needs of global patients.

In May 2019, faculty and students traveled to Ghana to work with rural health care providers to provide clinical care and health education. Faculty members Karen Schell, DHSc, RRT-NPS, and Lisa M. Trujillo, DHSc, RRT, have for many years traveled to the West African nation to bring much-needed supplies and support respiratory care education. Learn more about international experiences in the School of Health Professions.
