Professional Background

Dr. LaVerne Manos is the Director of Interprofessional Master of Science in Health Informatics Program, Coordinatorr for DNP Informatics Specialization.
She is Clinical Associate Professor with the School and The University of Kansas Medical Center. Dr. Manos is the director of the Center for Health Informatics- A center of excellence and a resource for the University, Kansas, and the region.

She previously worked as a Corporate Director/ Vice President of Informatics at Nueterra Healthcare. Prior to that, Dr. Manos was a Director of Surgical Services at the Women’s Center-Outpatient Services/Implementation at Provicence and Saint John Hospital. She has been working as a Senior Solution Designer in the Intellectual Properties Division and as a Perioperative Global Intellectual Property Strategist for Cerner Corporation. She also served as a Clinical Informaticist /Terminology Specialist for Zynx Health (Subsidiary of the Hearst Corporation) in Los Angeles California. She worked for Truman Medical Center as a Clinical Informatics Consultant.

Dr Manos is a doctorally prepared informatician. Her background includes many years in informatics and clinical practice leading and participating in interprofessional teams from care at the bedside to hospital and global business strategic leadership. Dr. Manos has worked in various informatics practice settings including: implementing electronic health records, clinical decision support creation and implementation, terminology modeling and mapping, development of electronic health record software, and global strategic management of new development of EHR software.

Dr. Manos currently serves as Chair of the Executive Committee for the American Medical Informatics Association's (AMIA) Academic Forum and serves on the Board of Directors for AMIA. She also serves on the Executive Board of
International Network for the Science of Team Science (INSciTS). Furthermore, Dr. Manos serves on the AMIA Certification Commission and Chairs the Eligibility Committee within the Commission.
Dr. Manos is part of Informatics Accreditation Site Surveyor Commission on Accreditation for Health Informatics and Information Management Education (CAHIIM).

In 2015, she was honored with the Nurse of the Year award as part of Nursing Informatics In recognition of outstanding nurses throughout the State of Kansas and the Greater Kansas City metropolitan area while supporting the March of Dimes.

Research

Overview


Dr. Manos’ research interests include interprofessional informatics education, virtual reality and virtual works as simulations, but also the use of Instasim® in interprofessional collaborative practice.

Dr. Manos mentors many learners and peers through research studies, presentations, posters and other scholarly efforts.

Dr. Manos was involved in as a Co-Principal Investigator (Co-PI) was funded by University of Kansas Medical School and the title is: "Language, Power, and the Construction of Hierarchy in Healthcare: A Pilot Study to Investigate Healthcare Interprofessional Language Use." This study was conducted between 2015 and 2016.

Dr. Manos was a Principal Investigator (PI) from 2012 to 2015 on a grant awarded by the Department of Health and Human Services. The name of the project is "Interprofessional Collaborative Acute Care Practice - Pediatrics (ICAP-Peds)". The grant amount was $998.006.
Dr. Manos also served as a consultant/ advisor on a grant funded by Donald W. Reynolds Foundation between 2013 and 2016. The name of the Project is: "Kansas Reynolds Program in Aging Grant. Transitions of Primary Care Patient Project."

In 2014, Dr. Manos has served as an advisor for a project called "Problem Based Learning Module," a project funded by KUMC School of Medicine.
