Health Technology Community Extension

The Institute for Community Engagement is the primary division of KU Medical Center that leverages the latest technologies to extend health care, health professional education, support services and other activities across the state of Kansas.

Using Technology to Advance Health Care in Kansas

From clinical telemedicine to social media training for local hospitals, and continuing education and professional development for health care providers, the Institute researches and develops a wide range of distance technology services.

Telemedicine and Telehealth

The purpose of the University of Kansas Center for Telemedicine and Telehealth is to provide the citizens of Kansas with the best available health care while providing Kansas health professionals the best available health information and education.

With more than 20 years of experience in telemedicine and telehealth, we continue to meet these goals in the most professional, timely and convenient manner possible.

Continuing Education and Professional Development

The University of Kansas Medical Center Continuing Education and Professional Development is Kansas’ leading provider of nationally accredited educational programs directly related to the top practice concerns of physicians.

With more than a century of pioneering leadership in continuing medical education, our focus remains on progressing medical knowledge to improve practice performance, patient outcomes and interprofessional health care delivery.

Project ECHO

Project ECHO® (Extension for Community Healthcare Outcomes) uses free web-based video conferencing technology to offer mentoring. Connect from your computer with a webcam and microphone, a tablet, or a smartphone to gain access to case-based learning and interdisciplinary teams.

Social Media for Local Communities

Utilizing social media to network with our local communities, national voices and professional organizations while promoting educational opportunities, conferences, regional facilities and research is important. Social media outlets are an excellent way to provide current updates and two-way communication with constituents of the University of Kansas Medical Center.
