Professional Background

I joined the KU pathology faculty in 2019. My primary clinical focus is bone and soft tissue pathology, and I also participate in the genitourinary, head and neck, and cardiovascular services. Resident and medical student education are of paramount importance to me. I am proud to serve on the resident education committee and as the head of pathology education for the school of medicine. I was very much honored to receive the 2020 STAR teaching award from the KU pathology residents. My passion for teaching and dedication to the craft are deep-rooted and long-seated; prior to entering medicine, I was a high school English teacher in inner-city Baltimore for four years where I formed my pedagogical philosophy.

Prior to joining KU, I received my BA in English from Amherst College. Following my years as a high school English teacher, I completed my pre-medical requirements at Johns Hopkins University and then matriculated at The University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine where I completed a post-sophomore fellowship in pathology. I stayed on at Penn to complete my anatomic pathology residency where I was fortunate to receive mentorship from Drs. John Brooks and Kum Cooper. I received subspecialty training in bone and soft tissue pathology at The Cleveland Clinic under Drs. Steven Billings, John Goldblum, Scott Kilpatrick, John Reith, and Brian Rubin. I have been fortunate to have had shorter educational experiences with Drs. Christopher Fletcher and Andrew Rosenberg as well.

My academic interests center on bone and soft tissue pathology and molecular pathology. My published reviews focus on tumors of the peripheral nervous system while my collaborative efforts have mostly dealt with the role of NGS in clinical practice.
