Graduation Information

Graduate Studies Calendar
This calendar indicates the Office of Graduate Studies deadlines for exams, defenses and submission of materials related to graduation. Also included is the Office of Registrar deadline for submitting Application for Degree (AFD).

University Academic Calendar
The Academic Calendar is maintained by the Office of the Registrar and indicates several deadlines including deadlines for enrollment, add/drop, withdrawal and fee payments.

Submission of Application for Degree (AFD) for Degree or Certificate Program Completion
Students completing a graduate degree or a graduate certificate program must file an AFD through Enroll and Pay the semester they will complete the degree or certificate in order for the degree or certificate to be awarded by the Registrar's Office. The AFD process is managed by the Office of the Registrar.

Transcripts and Diploma 
The diploma and final transcript with the degree posted are issued by the Office of the Registrar in June for Spring graduates, August for Summer graduates and January for Fall graduates. Click the transcript and diploma links for more detailed information.

Commencement 
Graduating students are eligible to participate in Commencement held annually in May on the Lawrence campus. Doctoral candidates may also participate in their School's graduation ceremony, if available, or the Doctoral Hooding Ceremony held the same weekend on the Lawrence campus.  Please follow the respective link for details and contact information.

School Recognition Ceremonies
The Schools of Health Professions, Medicine and Nursing each hold a ceremony for their graduates. School ceremonies are held on Saturday and University Commencement is held on Sunday of graduation weekend each May. Please direct all questions about school ceremonies directly to the Dean's Office for the respective school.

Electronic Thesis and Dissertation (ETD)
Both the thesis and dissertation must be submitted electronically for publishing.  The requirement for a thesis varies by master's program. A dissertation is required for all Ph.D. candidates regardless of the program.  For thesis/dissertation publishing details see the Electronic Thesis and Dissertation webpage.

GTA/GRA May Enroll in Fewer than Normal Hours Semester Graduate
A GTA/GRA may reduce enrollment hours the semester they graduate under certain circumstances upon submission of the GTA/GRA Request to Enroll in Fewer than Normal Hours request form and if approval is granted.
